President Trump’s Misconceptions: Nigeria’s Harmony Amidst Diversity
By Dr. Abbati Bako, Political Strategy and Communications Consultant, IPRC Nigeria
As the world watches, President Trump’s narrative on Nigeria has sparked concern. But the truth is, Nigerians have long coexisted in peace and harmony, defying divisive rhetoric. If President Trump will help Nigeria to clear insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other vices (indeed) will be advantageous for both Muslims and Christians the Democratic system will get years to be practiced in the country.

For 26 years, Nigeria’s democracy has flourished, bridging religious and cultural divides. Muslims and Christians stand united, a testament to the nation’s resilience. Hence, Nigerians leadership and other ordinary Nigerians will welcome the idea. But the American intention and approach must be pure.
This harmony is rooted in:
Cultural Diversity:
Over 250 ethnic groups, 500 languages, and a shared heritage should be given the opportunity to continue to exist
Religious Tolerance:
Coexistence and mutual respect between Muslims and Christians as it’s today should be given priority
Democratic Values:
Freedom, equality, and justice for all Nigerian citizens that will sustain the Democratic system to flourish
Nigeria’s story is one of hope—
Economic Growth:
Africa’s largest economy, with a thriving middle class should be encouraged for economic growth and development
Cultural Influence:
Nollywood, Afrobeats, and a vibrant arts scene as well as traditional exchanges should be assured
Global Leadership:
Peacekeeping, diplomacy, and regional influence
Boko Haram Insurgency:
Terrorism and security concerns, must be looked into and solve the problem
Economic Inequality:
Poverty and unemployment should as well be looked into and tackle the problem as quickly as possible
Corruption:
Mismanagement, corruption and embezzlement of resources must be eradicated ASAP
Youth Empowerment:
Entrepreneurship, science, technology and innovation should be the key
Women’s Rights:
Advocacy, equality, and representation will help the country to develop ASAP
Community Development:
Grassroots initiatives and social impact as well as rural integration must be implemented ASAP. Let’s celebrate Nigeria’s strength, not perpetuate misconceptions. Hence, America must help Nigeria to be United not to disintegrate.
Some possible points to consider:
Promoting Unity. Fostering dialogue and understanding of Global Cooperation and Integration. Nigeria is a resourceful nation with a huge population and if allowed to disintegrate, the world will see massive refugees that the world never experienced.
