NUJ JIGAWA INAUGURATES 2026 PRESS WEEK PLANNING COMMITTEE, AWARD COMMITTEE

The Jigawa State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has inaugurated the Planning Committees for 2026 Award and Press Week celebration, scheduled to place inOctober .

The inauguration took place on Wednesday at the Press Centre, Dutse and presided over by the State Chairman, Comrade Ismai’l Ibrahim Dutse.

The Planning Committee is to be chaired by Comrade Sani Muhammad Gumel, with other members drawn from various chapels of the union.

Other members of the committee are; Sani Labaran Salisu, Nura Sani Bello, Bushira Muhammad Yakasai, Halima Muhammad Sani, Garba Muhammad Bulangu, Ali Rabi’u Ali, Usman Abubakar, Suleiman Isyaku Danbatta, and Bala Haruna Dan Harbo, while Aminu Umar Shuwajo will serve as Secretary of the committee.

The committee has the responsibility of designing, coordinating, and implementing activities for the maiden annual week-long celebration, which is one of the biggest professional events in the NUJ calendar.

In his remarks, Ismai’l Ibrahim Dutse charged the committee to deliver what he described as “a memorable Press Week celebration,” stressing that the 2026 edition first time NUJ Jigawa week is organising a Press week, adding that the event should not only highlight the professionalism and unity of journalists in the state but also provide an opportunity for capacity building, reflection and celebration of excellence in the media industry.

According to the Chairman, the finale of the Press Week will feature a Dinner and Professional Awards Night to honour distinguished journalists and outstanding personalities who have contributed to the growth of the profession and society.

Comrade Dutse assured the committee of the leadership’s full support, urging them to work as a team and come up with innovative ideas that will leave a lasting impact on the union and the larger society.

Similarly, the council has also inaugurated Award Committee as required by the constitution to identify, nominate, screen, and select deserving journalists, media veterans, and public figures for the union’s various recognition and excellence awards.

The committee is to be chaired by Aliyu Muhammad Dangida while other members of the committee were drawn from various chapel.

Other members include; Aliyu Safiyanu Jahun, Talaki Muhammad, Najib Umar, Sadiya Inuwa Musa, Ahmed Muhammad Yalleman, Adamu Bala, and Bala Alhassan Roni, while Auwal Muhammad Kazaure will serve as Secretary of the committee.

Responding on behalf of members, the Committees Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Muhammad Dangida, expressed gratitude to the union leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee.

He pledged that the team would work diligently to organize a Press Week celebration befitting of the NUJ’s reputation in Jigawa State and beyond.

The NUJ Press Week, held annually, provides a platform for journalists to review developments in the profession, engage in intellectual discourse, promote ethical journalism and strengthen bonds of fellowship.

This year’s edition is expected to feature a variety of activities, including workshops, public lectures, novelty matches, and community service, culminating in the grand finale.

With the inauguration of the committee, preparations are now in top gear for what promises to be a memorable 2026 NUJ Press Week in Jigawa State.
