NUJ JIGAWA PARTNERS WITH JIRS TO DEMYSTIFY FG’S NEW TAX REFORM

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Jigawa State Council is to partner with the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service (JIRS) to enhance understanding on the demostication of the Federal Government’s new tax reform in the state.

Chairman of NUJ Jigawa State Council, Comrade Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of JIRS, Alhaji Nasir Sabo Idris. He explained that the visit is aimed to explore avenues for collaboration between the NUJ and JIRS.

Comrade Dutse emphasized the Union’s commitment to improving its image and addressing challenges posed by misinformation and unprofessional conduct in the digital media era. He highlighted initiatives such as renovating the NUJ Secretariat and creating a conducive working environment for members. He urged JIRS to collaborate on public enlightenment campaigns to clarify the government’s commitment to the new tax reform.

Additionally, he proposed joint training workshops for NUJ members and JIRS staff to dispel misconceptions about taxation and enhance awareness of the Internal Revenue Service’s roles.

Comrade Dutse commended JIRS for its achievements in boosting the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, positioning Jigawa as the fourth-ranking state in economic growth nationwide, a feat attributed to Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s effective economic policies.

Responding, Alhaji Nasir Sabo Idris, the Executive Chairman of JIRS, expressed gratitude for the visit and underscored the importance of media collaboration in educating the public on tax reform. He noted that improved public understanding is essential for tax compliance and assured the NUJ of JIRS’s readiness to collaborate on tax education and sensitization campaigns to address tax evasion challenges.

Alhaji Sabo concluded by congratulating the newly elected NUJ executives, recognizing their integrity, competence, and experience.
