A candidate for the Federal House of Representatives has urged his supporters to boycott the Daushe procession expected to be held by two emirs in Kano today.
Hon. Abubakar Aminu Daneji, the AAC candidate for the House of Representatives representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency has urged his supporters and residents of Kano State to avoid attending the Hawan Daushe processions expected to be conducted onThursday, May 28, 2026, by the two rival claimants to the Kano Emirate throne His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II.
The call was contained in a statement issued by Hon. Daneji yesterday Wednesday, May 27, 2026, amid growing fears of possible violence, bloodshed, and destruction of property following reports that both rival emirs are planning to conduct separate traditional horse processions along similar routes within Kano metropolis.
According to the statement, the advice became necessary in order to safeguard innocent lives and properties as well as prevent any situation capable of degenerating into violence or public disorder.
Daneji appealed to residents to remain law-abiding and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions, stressing the need for peaceful coexistence and calm during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The development comes as tension continues to rise across several parts of Kano, particularly within communities expected to witness the rival processions including Mandawari, Galadanci, Kwanar Diso, and surrounding areas.
Observers and concerned residents have warned that if urgent preventive measures are not taken by security agencies, the situation could spiral into serious unrest capable of claiming innocent lives and destroying properties worth millions of naira.
Since the beginning of the Kano Emirate crisis, security agencies had repeatedly suspended Sallah durbar activities involving both parties in order to prevent clashes and maintain law and order. However, unlike previous years, neither the Kano State Government nor security agencies have publicly announced any restriction on the planned Hawan Daushe processions this year.
Speaking on the development, Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba, stated that they had formally written to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, informing the police about plans by His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero to conduct the Hawan Sallah procession.
According to him:
“We formally notified the police authorities that His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero would conduct the Hawan Sallah. Since security agencies did not issue any directive stopping us as they did in previous years, we consider that as clearance to proceed with our activities.”
Meanwhile, some residents accused security agencies of failing to act fairly in handling previous incidents surrounding the emirate dispute.
One Ibrahim Muhammad alleged that while Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero had previously complied with security directives suspending durbar activities in the interest of peace, Muhammadu Sanusi II allegedly went ahead with similar activities despite police restrictions without facing consequences.
He further alleged that during one of the previous processions, clashes broke out around the Zage area between rival groups, leading to loss of lives and destruction of property, while some aides associated with Muhammadu Sanusi II were reportedly invited for questioning by security operatives during subsequent investigations.
Residents of affected communities have now expressed deep concern over reports that both rival emirs may conduct separate Hawan Daushe processions along the same route on Thursday.
According to residents, families in several areas have already begun advising their relatives to remain indoors in order to avoid possible violence should both processions eventually converge.
Earlier on Wednesday, Muhammadu Sanusi II was seen leading a horseback outing, while Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero also staged a major horse parade accompanied by a large number of riders — a move political observers described as a strong indication that both parties intend to proceed with their planned activities despite rising tensions.
Reports further indicate that Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero is expected to visit his Mandawari residence on Thursday morning before proceeding with the Hawan Daushe procession, while Muhammadu Sanusi II is also expected to conduct his own procession reportedly along a similar route.
Concerned residents have therefore called on the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and other security agencies to urgently suspend the planned Sallah durbar activities just as was done in previous years in order to prevent violence and protect innocent lives.
According to them, allowing the two rival emirs to conduct separate Hawan Daushe processions along the same route could trigger deadly clashes capable of resulting in injuries, deaths, and massive destruction of properties belonging to innocent citizens who have no connection with the ongoing emirate dispute.
They further stressed that security agencies must act swiftly, fairly, and without bias by ensuring that all parties fully comply with security directives aimed at preserving peace and stability across Kano State during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
